A Ground Truth Webinar: Rethinking Barriers

We started out by cohosting A Ground Truth Webinar: Rethinking Barriers with our partners at Argus in March. We shared findings from a new national study we conducted to understand the true barriers to both preventative limit-setting behaviors and help-seeking among those with gambling problems.

NNPHI Annual Conference

In April, our team traveled to the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) Annual Conference in New Orleans to present “From Barriers to Breakthroughs: A Clear Path to Lasting Behavior Change.” For 25 years, the NNPHI Annual Conference has united changemakers to reimagine how public health can thrive at the local, state, and national levels. We had a great time connecting with others in the public health space, learning from each other, and furthering our shared commitment to building a healthier future for all.

NESHCo Annual Conference

In May, we presented at the New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) Annual Conference. In our session, we introduced our barrier analysis methodology through the lens of a recent collaboration with MORE Advertising. Faced with the predatory marketing of the tobacco and vaping industry on young people, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program (MTCP), in partnership with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office worked with their social marketing agency, MORE, to develop a campaign to promote quitting vaping and nicotine use among young adults in Massachusetts. MORE approached MSR to lead the research, both formative and creative concept testing. In our case study, we explain how we used barrier analysis to uncover the biggest barriers to quitting with young adults today and identify motivators that have since sparked actual change.

International Behavior Change Conference

In June, we presented our Barrier Analysis methodology virtually at the International Behavior Change Conference. It was exciting to learn from and network with Behavior Change scientists, academics, and policy practitioners from all over the world who are working to apply theories of behavior change to conflicts facing our global community, from healthcare to climate change.

NCPG Annual Conference

In July, we closed out our conference season by co-presenting with Argus at The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) Annual Conference in Nashville. In our presentation, we emphasized how important it is that we all work together to normalize responsible gambling as a healthful behavior that may help prevent problem gambling in the future, whether or not you’re struggling now.
