Our History

Market Street, Then and Now

Market Street’s journey began in 1978 when Julie Pokela, Ph.D., and Nancy Mihevc, Ph.D., formed The Research Group, after conducting a series of political polls for a range of candidates, including for a U.S. Congressional campaign in Massachusetts.

Over the next decade, The Research Group built a stellar track record and prospered, specializing in political polling, banking surveys, real estate feasibility studies, and healthcare marketing research. In 1986, Pokela and Elizabeth Denny, Ph.D., partnered to form Market Street Research and moved their offices to a small, historic building at 30 Market Street in Northampton, MA.

In 2017, Stephanie Gonthier, a long-time financial advisor of Market Street and former employee, returned to company as it transitioned to a fully virtual workplace environment. In 2018, Stephanie purchased Market Street Research, and took on the mantle of president of the company.

Today, Market Street Research remains focused on designing high-quality research. All our analysts hold Ph.D.s in research-related fields, and specialize in creating valid, reliable instruments that will gather the data that is most important to our client’s needs.
